Spafford is known for their astonishing improvisational ability and off-the-cuff extended jams, Spafford paints a picture in real-time each night with a musical palette known only to each other. It’s a private language comprised of both their talent as musicians as well as their formidable catalog of influences, spanning 90’s alt-rock radio hits to Steely Dan and The Crystal Method. Each Spafford show is a sonic pilgrimage, the journey of a team of musicians so in tune with each other that a single note communicates intent and purpose. Spafford is amongst the most creative and hard-traveling bands on the contemporary jam scene, performing countless sold-out headline dates along with high profile festival sets at Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, Firefly Music Festival, and many others.
COUNCIL RING
Start time: 07:30 PM
Fronted by a powerful lead vocalist and driven by thrilling instrumentation, Council Ring is a mix of psychedelic soul and accessible songwriting.
The band formed at the end of 2020: when the mood of the world turned towards fear and uncertainty, guitarist Ty Mattox and bassist Matt Kavanaugh turned towards music and creativity. Joined by Quint Gallaher on drums, Ian Hirsch on keyboards, and Chris Jan on vocals and guitar, they began performing their own taste of rock music. For Council Ring, the journey is the destination, and there is always something new to learn.
The music is rock and roll that’s been described as “Pink Floyd on steroids.” A rhythmic pulse throbs underneath a swirling mixture of instrumentation and vocals: tension and depth is followed by tenderness and relaxation. Their goals are simple, but difficult: to bring the pressures of life out in the form of music.
Council Ring has established a reputation as a live experience with every show being different from the last. The band has played all over North Carolina from Asheville to Wilmington, Greensboro, Fayetteville for the Dogwood Music Festival and all over Charlotte at several different venues, clubs, bars and breweries. Their fans continue to grow as does their experience and confidence, drawing recognition from a range of ages and musical tastes.
