THE HOURGLASS KIDS

The Hourglass Kids began as a group of high school friends jamming in various North Carolina basements, growing over the years into a dynamic seven-piece reggae-jam-rock collective. Known for their electrifyingly original live shows, the band draws on the distinct lyricism of four vocalists and the vibrant energy of a full horn section. Their music spans an eclectic mix of styles, blending roots reggae, psychedelic jam, hip-hop, funk, and jazz-rock.

The band got their start playing gigs in 2019 by busking in the grocery store beer den in their hometown of Hickory, NC. Here in the beer den, the band delivered their first original songs to the world, honing their free-flowing style built on the improvisational ethos of a jam or jazz band. This foundation helped shape their identity, blending spontaneity and collaboration into their music. Soon, a grassroots following developed that saw them take their act to breweries, taprooms, and house parties across the state before graduating to the music venues and festivals they now frequent.

Since their inception, The Hourglass Kids have shared the stage with an impressive roster of artists, bridging the worlds of American-reggae and psychedelic jam music. Their naturally bouncy style has seen them perform alongside reggae powerhouses like The Elovaters, Fortunate Youth, Tropidelic, Sensi Trails, Kyle Smith, The Wheeland Brothers, Common Kings, and Kash'd Out. At the same time, their improvisational flair and affinity for extended instrumental sections have made them a natural fit to share stages with celebrated jam acts such as Papadosio, Big Something, Cosmic Collective, Keith Allen Circus, Dr. Bacon, Baked Shrimp and others. This dynamic blend of influences highlights the band’s ability to connect with a wide range of audiences while staying true to their eclectic sound.

October 2024 marked a major milestone for The Hourglass Kids with the release of their debut full-length album, The Great Delay. The album proved the band's exceptional ability to blend reggae, psychedelic jam, funk, and neo-jazz into a cohesive and compelling project. This release follows a series of singles and two EPs that highlighted their early reggae influences, demonstrating their growth and evolution as a band. The Great Delay captures the band's musical journey, fusing their foundational reggae roots with new, experimental sounds, and solidifying their place as a genre-defying force in the music scene.
